I got my first credit card (ICICI Platinum Rewards) in 2006 through my salary account with ICICI Bank. Since then, my fascination with credit card rewards and points began, leading me to explore various other credit cards.
During my time work assignment in the USA, I managed to earn $2500 simply by signing up for various credit cards. This experience further solidified my appreciation for the benefits and rewards offered by credit cards.
When I launched CashOverflow in 2015, one of the most popular articles on the platform was about credit card hacks.
I use credit card hacks for complimentary shopping, travel perks, and even luxurious stays in 5-star hotels.
Last year, I had the opportunity to acquire free business-class tickets through my credit cards.
I’m excited to share valuable tips that can potentially provide you with up to 17 free business class tickets in a year.
1. Premium Credit Cards With Travel Benefits
I stay well-informed about the latest updates on credit cards that offer the best reward value.
I actively hunt for new credit cards that can benefit me and my blog readers.
Currently, my focus is to get more than 10% return through rewards earned by using premium credit cards. Last year, I successfully applied for the Axis Magnus credit card and the Axis Vistara credit card.
You can book free business-class tickets using the combination of Axis Magnus and Axis Vistara Infinite credit cards.
2. My First Free Business Class Ticket
Most premium travel credit cards offer free flight tickets as a sign-up bonus. I got my first free business class ticket with the Axis Vistara Infinite credit card as a sign-up bonus. The ticket was worth more than the annual fee of Rs 10,000.
On the other hand, the Axis Magnus credit card gives a choice between an economy-class domestic ticket or a Tata Cliq voucher worth Rs 10,000 as a sign-up bonus.
I opted for the Tata Cliq voucher as I often employ money-saving techniques to book domestic flights for less than 10,000 rupees.
3. Strategize Credit Card Spending to Hit Milestone Bonuses
You can maximize your credit card rewards value by understanding the milestones associated with each card and aligning them with your spending habits.
For example, the Vistara credit card gives up to 4 business class tickets on spending Rs 12 lakh in a year.
On the other hand, the Axis Magnus credit card gives 25,000 bonus EDGE REWARDS points upon spending 1 lakh rupees in a month.
To ensure I consistently hit this milestone, I adopted a strategic approach to my monthly spending.
I noted down my fixed expenses like car servicing, life insurance premiums, health insurance payments, car insurance renewals, advance tax obligations, and significant purchases for my home within their due month. This provides me with clarity about how much money I will be spending on fixed expenses at the beginning of the month.
Every month, I buy Rs 20,000 worth of gift vouchers from Amazon, Flipkart, Decathlon, and MakeMyTrip. I make all other expenses on the Magnus credit card until I reach a monthly milestone of Rs 1 lakh.
I use the Axis Vistara Infinite credit card for all the remaining expenses, ensuring I hit the Vistara annual milestones.
4. Use Transfer Partners To Get Maximum Reward Value (300-400 words)
I got 5 free business class tickets—a combination of the sign-up bonus and hitting the annual milestones with the Vistara Infinite credit card.
I discovered a hack when it comes to utilizing Magnus EDGE REWARDS Points. Normally, when you redeem these points, their value is approximately 0.20 paisa per point.
However, you can transfer the EDGE reward points to Club Vistara at a ratio of 5:4, which means you can convert 25,000 EDGE reward points into 20,000 Vistara club points.
With 20,000 Vistara points, you can book a domestic business class ticket worth a minimum of Rs 14,000. Additionally, Vistara points can be used for booking international flights as well.
By consistently achieving the monthly spending milestone of 1 lakh rupees on your Magnus credit card, you can obtain up to 12 free business class tickets every year.
You can use Magnus & Vistara credit card to get 17 free business-class tickets on spending 24 lacks in a year.
When it comes to getting the best reward value from a credit card, it’s crucial for you to pick the right credit card based on your spending habits. If your credit card spending is relatively low, you may not be able to fully enjoy the milestone benefits that come with premium credit cards.
On the other hand, if your annual credit card spending exceeds 10 lakh rupees, you can get the best reward value in terms of enhanced reward rates, exclusive perks, and access to premium services with premium credit cards.
