Updated September 2026. ZebPay has been around since 2014, which is forever in Indian crypto years. Old brand, INR rails, CryptoPacks, futures. One question still comes up:
Is ZebPay actually a good exchange to use in 2026, or are you better off on CoinDCX / CoinSwitch / Mudrex?
If you’re unsure, let’s fix that.
This ZebPay review covers the FIU claim, official fees (spot, Quick Trade, futures, CryptoPacks), the inactivity membership fee, products, tax/TDS, who it suits, and when I’d pick something else. I’ll flag numbers that can move so you re-check zebpay.com/in/fees before you deposit.
Disclosure: Some links on this site may be affiliate links (see deals). That doesn’t change the caveats below. This is not financial, tax, or legal advice. Crypto is volatile. Never risk money you can’t afford to lose. There are no guaranteed profits. Always verify live fees, FAQs, and FIU claims on zebpay.com before depositing.
ZebPay review snapshot (2026)
| Item | Summary (verify live) |
|---|---|
| What it is | India crypto exchange: spot Exchange, Quick Trade, INR/USDT futures, CryptoPacks, Earn, SIP, API |
| Entity / FIU framing | India ops via Awlencan Innovations India Limited. Marketing / legal pages claim FIU-IND registration. Check the site. |
| Product hook | Long track record (2014) + CryptoPacks + Earn + futures in one INR app |
| Fee honesty | Official Regular spot is 0.45% maker / 0.45% taker. Quick Trade starts 0.5% onwards. VIP slabs drop with volume. Confirm live. |
| Watch-out | Inactivity / membership fee of 0.0001 BTC (or equivalent) if you don’t trade in a month. Earn activity can avoid it per fees FAQ. |
| Best for | Users who want a long-running FIU-framed INR venue with baskets + Earn, and who trade or Earn enough to dodge the idle fee |
| Not ideal for | Buy-and-forget holders who rarely open the app; people chasing the lowest published retail spot % without checking VIP math |
| My take | Solid legacy India name. Fees and the monthly idle charge matter more than nostalgia. Read the fee card, then decide. |
Wider shortlist: best crypto exchanges in India. Head-to-head with CoinDCX: CoinDCX vs ZebPay.
What is ZebPay?
ZebPay is one of India’s oldest crypto exchanges, founded in 2014. The India platform is operated by Awlencan Innovations India Limited (named in ZebPay’s India legal / privacy pages). Product surface: spot trading, one-tap Quick Trade, perpetual futures, CryptoPacks, Earn, SIP-style flows, and APIs.
Homepage copy often says 400+ crypto pairs and “up to 8.5%” on Earn. Treat coin-count and yield marketing as marketing. What matters is KYC, whether your bank INR deposit works, the fee on the Preview Summary screen, and whether you can withdraw when you want.
ZebPay lived through the 2018 RBI banking-circular mess and kept showing up as a “trusted old name” in Indian retail crypto. Longevity is real. It still doesn’t mean fees are cheap by default, or that FIU registration is insurance.
Is ZebPay FIU registered / legal to use in India?
Crypto isn’t banned in India. It’s taxed as a Virtual Digital Asset (VDA). Platforms serving Indians are expected to register with FIU-IND under PMLA and run KYC/AML.
ZebPay’s India blog and compliance-facing copy state FIU-IND registration and AML/KYC. Legal pages name Awlencan Innovations India Limited as the India operator for INR/crypto trading, deposits/withdrawals, and futures. Secondary industry roundups often list ZebPay / Awlencan among FIU-registered VDA service providers too.
Still: re-verify on zebpay.com before large deposits. FIU doesn’t hand consumers a perfect always-on public dashboard. FIU registration means AML reporting hygiene. It is not SEBI approval, not deposit insurance, and not a promise you’ll be made whole after a hack or freeze. Same framing we use in the exchanges guide.
ZebPay fees in 2026 (official card vs old blog numbers)
Here’s the deal: a lot of third-party “ZebPay review 2026” pages still quote spot maker/taker around 0.15% / 0.25%. That does not match the live India fee page I checked. Official Regular tier on zebpay.com/in/fees (effective from 12 Oct 2024 per their note) is:
| Surface | What the official fees page says (confirm live) |
|---|---|
| Spot Exchange – Regular | 0.45% maker / 0.45% taker for 30-day volume ₹0 to ₹5 lakh |
| Spot VIP slabs | Drops with volume (e.g. VIP1 ~0.18%/0.18% above ₹5 lakh; down toward VIP7 ~0.03%/0.03% above ₹500 Cr). Check live tier table. |
| Quick Trade | 0.5% onwards (preview on the order screen; can vary by asset/pair). Women traders: marketed 20% Quick Trade discount up to ₹5,000. |
| Futures (VIP 0) | ~0.020% maker / 0.050% taker; funding + liquidation clearance (0.5%) can apply |
| CryptoPacks | Buy fee 0%; sell fee 1%; rebalancing 0.1% when it rebalances |
| INR deposit | Instant / manual fiat deposit listed at INR 0. UPI help docs exist (min/max and bank-link rules apply). |
| INR withdraw | Flat ₹15; can take up to ~3 working days |
| Crypto deposit / withdraw | Deposits listed free; withdrawals are per-asset network fees. Whitelist / KYC level limits have 2026 notes on the fees page. |
| Inactivity / membership | 0.0001 BTC or equivalent if you don’t trade in a month. Fees FAQ says Earn activity can also avoid it. GST applies as stated. |
| Enhanced KYC | ₹500 + 18% GST = ₹590 when you upgrade limits (regular KYC free) |
| 1% TDS + GST | TDS on crypto trades per Indian rules; fees page says fees are exclusive of GST / TDS. Screenshot contract notes. |
If you’re unsure which screen you’re on, look at the Preview Summary before you tap confirm. Quick Trade is convenience. Exchange is the order book. Same coin, different fee story.
Products: Quick Trade, Exchange, futures, CryptoPacks, Earn, SIP
Quick Trade is the beginner-friendly buy/sell path. Fast. Fee starts higher. Fine for small tickets if you accept the premium.
Exchange is the spot order book (maker/taker). Use limit orders when you care about price. Regular 0.45%/0.45% is not “ultra cheap” versus some Pro/ZERO plans elsewhere. VIP only helps if your 30-day volume actually clears the slab.
Futures / perpetuals are on ZebPay’s India stack (INR and USDT pairs per fees page). Leverage can wipe you. Funding fees hit open positions at funding times. Liquidation clearance is listed at 0.5%. If you don’t understand margin, skip this.
CryptoPacks are thematic baskets. Buy fee marketed at 0%, sell at 1%, plus rebalance 0.1%. Still crypto, not mutual funds. Baskets rebalance. Prices move.
Earn is marketed with returns “up to 8.5%” on the homepage. Rates and lockups change. Yield is not a bank FD. Also useful because the fees FAQ ties Earn activity to avoiding the monthly inactivity charge.
SIP-style investing shows up in ZebPay’s India blog (recurring buys with fee estimates). Useful for rupee-cost averaging. Still VDA tax on every sale. Keep records. API exists for spot and perps if you’re building bots.
One gap: multiple third-party roundups say ZebPay does not offer classic P2P. Confirm in-app if you need P2P specifically.
INR deposits, withdrawals, and KYC limits
INR funding is Instant Deposit, Manual Deposit, and help-centre docs for UPI (min/max and “registered bank only” rules). Unregistered / joint / NRE-NRO style deposits can get refunded with penalties per their help articles. Deposit only from the bank you registered.
INR withdrawals are cheap on paper (₹15 flat) but not always instant. Crypto withdrawals need address care, and the fees page has 2026 notes on whitelisted vs non-whitelisted limits by KYC level. Enhanced KYC costs money when you need higher limits.
Security: what ZebPay claims vs what that means
ZebPay marketing talks about multi-sig cold storage (often “98%+”), BitGo custody / insurance language, Chainalysis, and a long “no major hack” story. Fees FAQ even ties the inactivity fee to security costs. Insurance headlines and dollar amounts can differ across pages, so treat them as marketing until you read the current security page.
Partners and cold storage reduce some risks. They don’t remove exchange risk, withdrawal freezes, or operational bugs. Don’t keep life-changing balances on any exchange longer than you need. For self-custody basics see best crypto wallets for beginners in India.
Tax and TDS (India, 2026)
Same rules as other Indian VDA platforms:
- ~30% tax on crypto gains (no easy set-off of losses against other income under the usual VDA framing)
- 1% TDS on many trades (ZebPay’s fees page states 1% TDS on Spot & Quick Trade from 1 Jul 2022; exceptional cases can be higher)
- Keep contract notes / CSV exports. Use a CA if amounts aren’t tiny.
No tax-avoidance tips here. Tooling start: crypto tax tools in India.
Pros and cons
Pros: long India history (2014+); FIU-framed Awlencan entity with a clear public fee page; product breadth (spot, Quick Trade, futures, CryptoPacks, Earn, SIP, API); INR deposits marketed free; INR withdraw a flat ₹15; Earn/trade path can avoid the idle fee if you use it.
Cons: Regular spot 0.45%/0.45% is middling for low-volume retail; Quick Trade premium adds up; inactivity fee hurts true HODLers; CryptoPack sell (1%) + rebalance isn’t free investing; futures / Earn yield need adult risk reading.
Who ZebPay is for (and who should skip it)
I’d consider ZebPay if you want a long-running INR exchange, you like CryptoPacks or Earn, you’ll trade or Earn at least once a month, and you’re fine verifying fees on the Preview screen.
I’d start elsewhere if you want the simplest first-buy UX (often CoinSwitch), basket/SIP investing with a Coin Sets focus (Mudrex), or you’re weighing default big-India CEX polish against CoinDCX in CoinDCX vs ZebPay. Also see WazirX vs CoinDCX if hack/recovery history is part of your shortlist.
FAQs
Is ZebPay safe / FIU registered?
ZebPay markets FIU-IND registration via Awlencan Innovations India Limited. That is compliance hygiene, not insurance. Re-check zebpay.com before large deposits.
What are ZebPay trading fees in 2026?
Official Regular Exchange fees are 0.45% maker and 0.45% taker. Quick Trade starts at 0.5% onwards. VIP and futures rows are on the fees page. Ignore outdated 0.15%/0.25% blog numbers until they match the live card.
Does ZebPay charge if I don’t trade?
Yes, per the fees FAQ: 0.0001 BTC or equivalent for inactive months with no trade. Using Earn is listed as another way to avoid it. Confirm the current rule before you park coins and forget the app.
Does ZebPay support UPI?
Help-centre articles describe INR UPI deposits with min/max limits and registered-bank rules. Availability can change. Check the deposit screen in your account.
Is ZebPay good for beginners?
Quick Trade is beginner-friendly, but the fee is higher. For many first-timers I’d still compare CoinSwitch’s simple app and Mudrex’s SIP/Coin Sets story before defaulting to ZebPay on brand age alone.
Final take
ZebPay remains a real India crypto option in 2026: old brand, FIU-framed entity, INR rails, CryptoPacks, Earn, futures. The fee card is clearer than many competitors once you open zebpay.com/in/fees. The Regular 0.45% spot rate and the monthly inactivity charge are the two things people under-read.
If that trade-off works for how you actually use crypto, fine. If you mostly buy once and disappear for months, calculate the idle fee first. And whatever you pick, verify live fees, never risk money you can’t afford to lose, and keep tax records.
